Chickasaw baseball wins district title

After narrowly winning its first round of district action on July 10, 5-4 over Central Springs, New Hampton’s baseball team has been on a roll.
The Chickasaws continued post-season play with a 7-4 victory over Forest City and took the district crown Saturday over Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, 7-3, in the 12th consecutive district final for the Chickasaws while under the direction of head coach Cory McDonald.
Garner Hayfield Ventura had a record of 20-5 going into the district final match-up, while the Chickasaws were 17-15. 
A substate game will be played Tuesday, July 20, in Mason City at 7 p.m. against Roland-Story, the top-ranked team in Class 2A with a 30-5 record. The winner will move on to the state tournament; the first round will take place at Merchant Park in Carroll on July 27.
