Chickasaw boys take second in outdoor debut

Lead Summary

Just the fact that his boys finally got to compete in an outdoor meet was enough for New Hampton track coach Scott Frerichs. But the proverbial icing on the cake was the fact that the Chickasaws had a pretty decent meet Thursday as they finished a strong second at the annual New Hampton Coed Invitational.Frerichs’ team posted four victories — Noah Fenske in both the shot put and the discus, Braydon Fisher in the 400 low hurdles and Keagan John in the 1,600 — as it piled up 113 points. North Fayette Valley won the meet with 134 points.“The boys just really needed a chance to get out there and compete and, we had a few ups and downs, but it was just great to get out there and compete in a meet. … It felt like we hadn’t competed in forever.”And he wasn’t exaggerating all that much.New Hampton’s last meet was the NEIC Indoor on March 20, and before Thursday, Mother Nature had wiped out four meets. And she was back to her old tricks following the meet as a Friday meet in Waverly and a Saturday meet in Iowa City were both cancelled because of the weather.Still, Frerichs found a lot to like when it came to Thursday’s coed.
