Chickasaws enjoy a banner opener on the golf course

A golf team would be hard-pressed to find better balance than New Hampton's girls had on Friday, where three girls tied for medalist honors.  Despite some impediments, the Chickasaws finished with a 190, which tied their best nine-hole effort last year and easily beat Charles City's 254.  "We played pretty good, considering the course conditions," said coach Eric Olson of the meet held at Charles City. "We had some bad lies in places, even the fareway wasn't good. They hadn't been mowed and there were a lot of bare spots. Considering that, having four girls in the 40s, that's pretty decent."  Of the three girls tied for the top spot, two were rookies — as far as high school golf is concerned, anyway.  More on the story may be found in the April 11 Tribune.
