Completing the first step

Lead Summary

Although they defeated Waukon two times during the regular season, coach Jess Geerts didn’t take New Hampton’s regional opening match against the Indians lightly. It paid off, as the Chickasaws were able to sweep Waukon 3-0.
“It’s tough playing someone you’ve played twice. It’s almost harder than playing someone you’ve never played before,” Geerts said. “We knew Waukon had a couple of good hitters.”
From the first serve in the contest, the Chickasaws were focused. They scored the first five points of the opening set and widened the margin to 14 at 17-3. This rally was sparked by a Rachel Rinken kill followed by two consecutive Rinken aces.
