Depth lifts Nashua-Plainfield to Class 1A sectional title

As Nashua-Plainfield wrestling coach Al Frost prepared his team for Saturday’s Class 1A sectional tournament, his goal was singular — win the team title.Mission accomplished.
The Huskies used its depth to pile up 203 points to beat runner-up North Butler/Clarksville by 11 points and earn the team’s first appearance in the regional duals in six years.
Jakob Whitinger (113) and Evan Kalainoff (182) won individual titles for the Huskies while Shane Hillesheim (135) and Derik Downing (182) both took runner-up honors to advance to the district tournament that will be held nest Saturday in Denver.
But the Huskies got points from all 14 of their wrestlers, including third-place finishes from Trey Nelson (12), Kollyn Lentz (126), McKabe Munn (138), Dylan Downing (152), Tyson White (195) and Dalton Asche (220).
Nashua-Plainfield will take on MFL-Mar-Mac Tuesday in Lake Mills in the regional duals while Lake Mills meets North Butler/Clarksville in the other semifinal dual.
