Doris Maring Scoles dies at 96

Doris Maring Scoles 96, of Village Place, Marion, passed away
on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016. Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday,
Oct. 22, 2016, at United Methodist Church, 314 Brasher Street,
Nashua. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation
Service, Marion.
Survivors include her children, Linda Jo (Robert) Lenz and Thomas
(Barbara) Maring; grandchildren, Catherine Anne Slater, R. Thomas
Lenz, Carrie Guenther, Scott Maring and Heather Rittgers;
great-grandchildren, Courtney Lightfoot, Justin Slater, Hadley
Rittgers, Halle Rittgers, Paige Lenz, Mathew Maring, Christopher
Maring, Gideon Guenther and Marissa Heathcoat;
great-great-grandchildren, Makenzie Welsh, Logan Slater, William
Slater and Danielle Slater.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Gerald Maring and
Harry Scoles; and sister, Kathryn Wichhart.
Doris was born on July 19, 1920, in Jefferson County, the
daughter of Thomas and Nellie (Stark) Pollock. She graduated from
Ottumwa High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College. Doris
married Gerald Jerome Maring on Dec. 22, 1940, at the Bethel
Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. He passed away in 1976. She
later married Harry Scoles and he passed away after a few years of
marriage. Doris enjoyed cooking for her family.
