Farm Bureau offers up nutrient reduction ideas

We have done some research and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency gives great ways in which both farmers and non-farmers can help with nutrient reduction in our water sources.A few that stood out were• Construct waterways and buffer strips to help direct runoff to appropriate areas.• Follow nutrient and manure management plans accordingly.• Keep an eye on drainage systems to make sure they are draining effectly and accurately.• Use filter strips along ditches, lakes, and streams to help filter runoff.• Avoid blowing grass into the streets in the event they may have been sprayed with fertilizers and are then washed into the storm sewers which flow into lakes and rivers.Together we can all do something to help with Nutrient Reduction in our water sources.  We hope that everyone takes a minute to think of something they can improve on their farm or at their home which may help.
