Golf carts, UTVs can hit New Hampton streets next spring

After more than five months of discussions and a couple of revisions, the New Hampton City Council on Monday night finally wrapped up its work on the city’s new golf cart ordinance.Council members passed the third and final reading of the ordinance that will allow golf carts and UTVs on city streets.The vote was 4-2 with Council Members Jill Eike and Cory McDonald, both of whom have expressed safety concerns with the new ordinance, voting against.Although the new ordinance goes into effect today [Friday] with the publication of the ordinance in the Tribune, golf carts and UTVs won’t legally be able to take to the streets until April 1, 2017.
