‘Great match’ but NH girls suffer loss

Lead Summary

Down 2-0 after the first two sets, New Hampton wasn’t about to give up and go back home Tuesday night as the Chickasaw volleyball team was playing at Decorah.    Although the Vikings were on a losing streak, many of their losses came at the hands of teams like Cedar Falls, Dike-New Hartford and Waverly-Shell Rock, all with strong programs.    New Hampton evened the game score at two sets apiece before Decorah eked out a 15-12 win in the final game.    “It was a great match,” said coach Jess Geerts. “We started off very slow and they excelled in serving at us which gave us a lot of trouble.”    The Chickasaws lost 25-18 and 25-20. “We just couldn't get into system and our out of system play was not up to par. BUT, the best part was we battled back.”    In the next two sets, the NH girls won 25-16, 25-21, before the final set.The rest of the story may be found in the Sept. 16 Tribune.
