A gritty group

Lead Summary

After having a good, but not great season in 2018-2019 by finishing with a record of 11-9, New Hampton girls basketball coach Chad Pemble is hoping this year’s group will take the next step to become an elite team.
“Our goals are to compete for a conference championship and a berth to the state tournament,” he said. “In order to do that, we need to beat teams that we haven’t in a few years, such as Crestwood, Waukon and Waverly-Shell Rock.”
Even though three of the Chickasaws’ starters from last season graduated, New Hampton returns everyone else from last year’s squad. Leading the way of these returnees is senior Alexa Wemark, who was a Northeast Iowa Conference honorable mention selection as a junior.
