The start of the fall sports season is being delayed because of a healthy dose of summer heat.
New Hampton was set to open the 2021 volleyball season with a triangular at Nashua-Plainfield today (Tuesday), but Nashua-Plainfield is dismissing two hours early because of the heat that is building in the area.
Because the school does not have air conditioning, Nashua-Plainfield decided to postpone the volleyball triangular that included the Huskies, Chickasaws and Jesup until Thursday, Sept. 16.
Meanwhile, the other event on today’s schedule — a cross country meet at Edgewood-Colesburg in which Turkey Valley was scheduled to compete — was canceled. Temperatures are expected to be in the 90s today and with the humidity, the heat index to near 100 in the late afternoon.
