New Hampton picks up first NEIC volleyball win

Lead Summary

Even though New Hampton won their first two sets against Crestwood Tuesday, 25-18 and 25-11, the third set wasn’t going as well. The Chickasaws came from behind numerous times to tie the game, but they were down 24-20 when Bailey Knowlton came up to serve.    Now granted, even if New Hampton would have lost the set, they probably would have come back to win the fourth set, after all, the Chickasaws had just played and defeated the Cadets while winning the Crestwood tourney over the weekend. But you just never know.    A Savannah Anderson kill tied the score at 24 and Knowlton kept serving until the NH girls won the set, and the match, 26-24.    For the match, Knowlton was 15-for-16 at the serving line with three aces, but those final six straight points were under duress. One net serve and the Chickasaws would have had to play another set.    “Coach always tells us a zone to serve to but at that point of the game, I wasn't really focusing on who to serve to,” Knowlton said the next day. “I was just trying to toss and swing with a nice, easy motion each time because I knew it wasn't the time for trying something fancy.”
