New Hampton, Turkey Valley race at Waukon cross country

Lead Summary

New Hampton brought back a pair of medals from the Waukon cross country meet Tuesday and Turkey Valley’s Jaycie Byrne narrowly missed one as both the Chickasaws and Trojans ran in the meet.    Not enough Turkey Valley runners competed to score as  teams, but New Hampton’s girls were sixth of eight teams and the boys were eighth of nine. Decorah was atop both standings.    New Hampton’s Nolan Usher turned in an 18:16 for seventh place of 72 runners to lead the varsity boys. Zach Gillen and his 36th place led the Trojans, while Jordon Snyder was battling tight calves and did not run.    “Even though my varsity boys were shy of their goals tonight, I think they all ran great races,” said New Hampton coach Jamie Quass Ohrt.    The course wasn’t as difficult as last week’s meet at Osage, which left Ohrt scratching her head when it came to Jerod Westemeier’s time.
