James 'Jim' Marik, 84

James “Jim” Marik, age 84 of Elma and formerly of Alta Vista, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022, at Colonial Manor in Elma.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Jerry Kopacek celebrating the mass.

Burial followed at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Lourdes.

Visitation was held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022.

James “Jim” Thomas was born August 26, 1938, the son of William and Adele (Poupe) Marik.

He attended and graduated from Elma Public School in 1957.

After graduating, Jim went on to attend Upper Iowa University where he obtained his bachelor of science degree. He went on to teach at Upper Iowa University until 1974 when he returned to the Marik family farm and served as a banker at Alta Vista State Bank until his retirement.

Jim was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes where he served as a sacristan. Jim also spent many years singing in the parish cluster choirs.

Though he was a Peacock at heart, Jim was also a proud Iowa State fan. He was an avid auction attendee, antique collector and enjoyed his morning coffee at McDonald’s.

Jim is survived by numerous cousins and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Adele.
