South Winn runners win at Central

Lead Summary

Both the South Winn girls and boys won a meet last week held at Elkader; eight schools competed at the meet but only four had the numbers to count as a girls team and six as a boys team.    “Overall, our kids competed much better at Elkader than we did at Monticello,” said South Winn coach Kevin Kearney. “We seemed kind of sluggish at Monticello, and we had a lot of people that did not stay focused throughout their entire race.  It was a much different story at this meet.  We had a large majority of athletes run their best or close to their best race of the season.”    Of the 54 runners in the girls race, Turkey Valley’s Shelby Reicks was fourth, in what Kearney called her “best race of the year.”  The rest of the Turkey Valley results may be found in the Sept. 20 Tribune
