Statement shutout

    The Nashua-Plainfield football team’s 52-0 homecoming victory over Rockford Friday night was more than just a win.    According to coach Chase Sudol, the Huskies also made a statement.    “We just showed the district we mean business,” Sudol said. “It feels awesome.”    The Huskies opened district play by giving powerhouse St. Ansgar all it could handle before falling 35-32, which proved Nashua-Plainfield could compete with anyone in the league.    Friday night against Rockford, the Huskies showed that they could dominate.    “We went up to St. Ansgar last week and gave a ranked team a really tough game,” Sudol said. “Tonight, in front of our homecoming crowd, we let everyone know that we’re for real.”    Senior quarterback Dayton Hansen directed a precision passing game, completing a remarkable 16-of-18 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns. That air attack was balanced with 198 rushing yards, led by Tristen Brase, who had 132 yards on the ground on 22 carries — three of those for touchdowns.    Hansen credited the effort of his teammates, and was happy to help the Huskies pick up a win on homecoming night.    “It’s really big, to get a win on our homecoming,” he said. “Last year, we didn’t, so we really wanted to get it done this year.
