Judie Elizabeth Newton dies at 74

Judie Elizabeth Newton, 74, of Oelwein passed away on Friday Sept. 8, 2017 at her home.  Services will be held privately.  The Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein is caring for Judie and her family.
Judie was born on July 16, 1943 in Sumter, SC to parents Rufus and Birdie (Hutchenson) Sturkie.  She was united in marriage with Gregory Earl Newton in Charles City.  She was employed for many years with Atwood Automotive in West Union, and later with Powers Manufacturing in Sumner until her retirement.  Later in life, Judie earned her Bachelor Degree in Social Science from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, graduating with the honor of Magna Cum Laude.  She enjoyed her family and birds.
Judie is survived by her husband of over 40 years, Greg; her son Dustin of Oelwein; her brothers: Mannie Sturkie, Arthur Sturkie and her sister Gail Breedlove, all of Columbia, SC.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Mickie Sturkie.
