Learning on the fly

Lead Summary

It wasn’t exactly the way the Nashua-Plainfield golf teams wanted to start the season, but then again, Nashua-Plainfield coach Jeff Trost is going to chalk it up as a learning experience.  “We have some learning curves to navigate,” Trost said after his teams opened the season with a home quadrangular last Thursday. “Boys wise, we knew with our inexperience and our lack of seniors, we were going to struggle. ... Honestly, with the girls, we were a little disappointed with our scores, but it’s one meet.”  The girls did finish second as Mason City Newman shot a 220 to win the meet by 11 strokes over the Huskies. On the boys side, Newman fired a 166 to easily beat North Butler by 29 strokes for the team title while the Huskies finished with a 222.  Start with the girls, who were led by senior Haley Hillesheim, who finished third in the individual race with a 52. For all the Nashua-Plainfield scores, please see the April 13 Repoter.
