Nashua will explore idea of city manager

Lead Summary

A new committee has been formed regarding the issue of Nashua having a “city manager,” and Council members Rolland Cagley and Kyle Lane will be the two who are checking into the issue more.Earlier this year, Council member Ryan Jung presented the idea of hiring a manager for Nashua.Nashua, like most cities in Chickasaw County, currently uses a city clerk; in fact, the only city in the county that does not have a clerk is Fredericksburg, which employs a city administrator. There are many items which were discussed about the duties, need and even more important the cost.Council member Tom Johnson’s concern was if Nashua could afford to pay the salary of a good city manager. Some of the members of the Council believe this would pay for itself in the long run while others are not for sure about the cost of adding another employee to the payroll while they are still unsure about the city’s Treasurer’s Report. Many of the members are now also working full-time jobs and a Council members job is 24/7 some feel. There are always people coming up to them raising issues and concerns. For the complete story see the 11/10/2016 Nashua Reporter.
