New Hampton girls dominate outdoor opener

Lead Summary

If the Chickasaw girls were anxious to start their outdoor season, it showed as they opened by capturing the title at Charles City Tuesday.    Seven teams were in the mix and New Hampton ran away with the win, scoring over twice the points of the runner-up Waverly-Shell Rock team.    “We're very happy with all of our performances last night,” said coach Jeanette Laures. “We were excited to finally get the chance to compete outdoors to see the progress we've made since our indoor meets.”    Even though Charles City’s full team wasn’t there — some of the upperclassmen competed at Osage the same night — it was a sound win. The Comets still had big numbers at their home meet, with over 70 girls on the roster this year.    “We saw more of our athletes in some different events and we saw many personal records as well,” offered Laures. “This meet was a great start to our outdoor season!”    Darian Wegner landed four wins on the night as she won the 200-meter dash, the 400-meter dash, sailed 16’ for a win in the long jump and was a member of the winning 4x100-meter relay.  For the full story, please see the April 7 Tribune.
