New Hampton girls top Waukon

Lead Summary

Coach Eric Olson was a fountain of cliches Sunday, a day before the girls were scheduled to start their final regular season week of the golf campaign.  The conversation centered around the regional pairings that were released last week that sent the Chickasaws to Manchester for the first round, and included phrases to do with not putting the cart before the horse and not counting  chickens before they're hatched.  With the postseason starting next week, Olson thought the Chickasaw 178-205 win at Waukon Friday might help prepare them.  The par 38 course at Waukon is longer than the par 36 at New Hampton Golf and Country.  "The girls had to adjust to hitting with clubs you don't have to hit with on our course," said Olson, "and that's good. We get to Manchester, we'll have to use different clubs to get to the green, it'll help us in the long run."  Allison Nuss finished the round as the medalist with a one over par 39 and Morgan Nuss fired the runner-up score of 43, both tying their season low scores.  For the full story, please see the May 2 Tribune.
