Out of the race

Lead Summary

When Delaney Lensing saw the notepad and pen come out, she elaborated on the “pretty sweet” phrase that she used to described the one hit she had in the Turkey Valley regional opener.    “It was exhilarating, how about that?” she said. Although she just had the one hit, it batted in four runs. The first grand slam home run of the senior’s career highlighted a seven-run inning that put the game away early over Riceville, 14-1 after four innings.    The next night, though, the Trojans were again handcuffed by Kee High, ending the season with a 15-3 loss to the Hawks.    Against Riceville the Lady Trojans had 10 hits and half went for extra bases. “I think we’re all improving with our bats and all working to make better connections,” Lensing said. “Sometimes it just takes us awhile to get in the groove.”  It's a fact that coach Haley Kriener is well aware of. Sometimes the team hits like crazy, at other times..... well, they don’t.  “You know, I wasn’t sure how this was going to go,” Kriener said after the win. “It was hard to know which team would show up.”    But it was the hard-hitting Trojan team that jumped out to a 3-1 lead and added four runs in the third before the runs rolled in during the final frame. For the full story, please see the July 8 Tribune.
