Playing the Chickasaw way

Lead Summary

As New Hampton coach Cory McDonald talked about Monday’s 9-4 win over Charles City on Monday night, he used the words “Chickasaw baseball” on numerous occasions.
And just what it is that?
“It’s a lot of things, it’s the things they’ve heard over and over,” McDonald said after his team improved to 14-3 overall and 7-2 in Northeast Iowa Conference play. “It’s not giving in with two strikes, it’s ‘next play’ out in the field, it’s not trying to do much with a pitch, it’s putting the extra work in, it’s all those little things.”
And those “little things” were all on display Monday night as the Chickasaws got a three-hit night from Aden Zwanziger, a four-RBI night from Noah Fye, a solid pitching start from Mason Cleveland and some stellar defense to pull away from the Comets.
Senior center fielder Josh Fenske made a superlative running catch to end the top of the first inning, and Zwanziger and Fye plated runs in the bottom of the frame as New Hampton jumped out to a 3-0 lead.
