Rinken’s gutsy jump highlights great state for Chickasaw girls

Lead Summary

Rachel Rinken knew she had to “hit” that first jump at the Class 2A state track meet last Thursday.
A little less than a month ago, the New Hampton junior had been involved in a farm accident, and she still isn’t anywhere near 100 percent.
“I knew the first one was huge,” Rinken said, “just because the longer it goes, the more it hurts. I mean you always want a good start, but I had to have it at state.”
And Rinken nailed it - soaring to a jump of 16-6.5 that ultimately gave her an eighth-place finish and the Chickasaws their lone team point of the meet.
