Austin Bienemann opened the New Year in a big way as he posted double-doubles in both the Huskies’ game last week.

Knocking on the door

Huskies run winning streak to four before falling to West Fork

The win was nice, but the loss Nashua-Plainfield suffered last week may have shown just how far the Huskies have come this season.

A night after beating Central Springs 70-61, the Huskies saw their four-game winning streak come to an end but not until after they gave Top of Iowa Conference East Division leader West Fork fits for 32 minutes before finally succumbing, 66-57.

“We told the guys on Friday before the game that there was no doubt in our mind that we were going to play with West Fork the whole way,” Nashua-Plainfield coach Sam Brown said. “We know what kind of team we have when we play smart, and play hard.  We did both of those things on Friday night and that’s why it was such a close game from tip to buzzer.”

The Huskies showed off a dangerous 1-2 punch in Austin Bienemann and Isaac Chambers. Bienemann hit 10 of 14 shots from the field to score 22 points to go with his 10 rebounds and seven assists while Chambers finished the night with 20 points.

The two also shined against Central Springs. Bienemann had 18 points and 10 rebounds while Chambers also had a double-double with 15 points and 10 assists.
