Total team title

Lead Summary

The goal for the Nashua-Plainfield wrestling team was simple Saturday: Win a Class 1A sectional team title.
The Huskies accomplished their mission, although it didn’t go quite the way coach Al Frost envisioned.
“We had some disappointment, I’m not going to kid you,” the veteran coach said after his team scored 203 points to best runner-up North Butler/Clarksville by 11 points to win Nashua-Plainfield’s first sectional title in seven years. “We had some guys we thought would get through and that’s always tough when they don’t. But we showed how important it is in this day and age to fill all the weights.”
In short, team depth won this sectional title and vaulted Nashua-Plainfield into the regional dual tournament for the first time since 2014. All 14 Huskies scored team points, and those points meant the difference between wrestling in the regional duals Tuesday and staying home.
Consider this: The two Huskies 106-pounder Garrett Lentz and 170-pound Brylon Bathke — who didn’t win a match Saturday scored a combined 15 team points. Without them in the lineup, Nashua-Plainfield would have scored 188 points and fallen to third in the team standings.
The rest of the N-P results may be found in the Feb. 7 Reporter.
