Trojan boys record sweep over Starmont

Lead Summary

Turkey Valley scored a run in each of the middle three innings in game one at Starmont Monday and with good pitching, that was more than enough to win the first game of the doubleheader, 3-0. But the Trojans boys piled on the runs in game two, earning a sweep for the day.
Kyle Langreck started the third inning of game one with a single, Mason Goerend followed suit and Evan Drilling had an RBI on a fly ball to right field for a 1-0 Trojan lead.
After getting hit by a pitch, Simon Schmitt scored on another Goerend single in the fourth and Cale Reicks singled and made it all the way around the bases without the benefit of another hit in the fifth. Reicks used two steals in scoring the final run of the game and with one earlier in the game and another steal in game two, he is tied for second in the Upper Iowa Conference with 12 stolen bases; he has yet to be caught stealing.
Jordon Snyder went the distance on the mound, tossing a three-hitter with three walks and two strikeouts. Among UIC pitchers with 10 or more innings pitched, Snyder leads the conference with a 0.00 ERA.
“We got a heck of a pitching performance from Jordan and scraped together enough runs to win the ball game,” said coach Dan Stepan.
