Trojan girls advance to regional semifinal game

Lead Summary

In a game that was determined in the final seconds, Turkey Valley defeated Kee High 55-52 Tuesday night to advance to the regional semifinal round of the girls basketball playoffs.
The game was close throughout, as Kee led 10-9 after a quarter and Turkey Valley was up at the half 30-29. Even though the Trojan girls went into the final quarter with a 41-35 lead, the Kee Hawks shaved the lead to two points before a Jalyssa Blazek free throw with 12 seconds left gave the Lady Trojans a 3-point lead and Kee was not able to tie. Ali Hoffert led the TV girls with 26 points.
"Great game by both teams," said coach Carla Nymeyer. "Fantastic atmosphere. Awesome TV fan base and they were backing us loud and proud!"
Turkey Valley and Kee were 1-1 against each other during the regular season, the same as the next TV opponent, Central Elkader. Central, with their 20-3 record and the Lady Trojans at 19-4 will meet Friday (Feb. 21) at North Fayette Valley High School, West Union at 7 p.m.
