Trojan girls win first regional round

Lead Summary

The 12-21 Turkey Valley softball team may have been considered an underdog when they played a Don Bosco team with an 18-14 record on the Dons home field in the first round of regionals Monday.
But when Kassidy Reicks hammered a two-RBI double in the first inning, then scored on a passed ball, the Trojans were on their way to a 5-3 first round win.

They won't have long to celebrate, as Tuesday night they're scheduled to play the second round back at Gilbertville, against BGM, a 4-0 winner over West Central. Turkey Valley has also beaten West Central this season, twice.

"We didn't want the season to end, Kassidy's hit broke the ice a little and Emily Busta pitched a good game," said coach Junior Hackman. "Hopefully we can carry this over to tomorrow night."

The Tuesday game at Gilbertville is scheduled for 5:30.
