Trojans fall in nine to Waukon, swept by UIC favorite

Lead Summary

At the beginning of the season, Turkey Valley coach Dan Stepan looked for Kee High to be not only a team to beat in the Upper Iowa Conference, but a top contender in Class 1A.
That probably didn’t change after the Kee Hawks defeated the Trojans 13-2 and 12-2 in a doubleheader Thursday, a day after Waukon edged Turkey Valley 6-5 in nine innings.
In all three games Stepan singled out his defense, which committed only one error against Waukon and one in each of the Kee games.
Turkey Valley took an early lead against the Indians Wednesday as a double by Cale Reicks batted in the first run of the game and Reicks then stole his way home for the second run. Mason Goerend was hit by a pitch and scored in the third and Elliott Dietzenbach walked and scored in the fifth.
Going into the top of the seventh the TV boys were still up 4-3, but the Indians scored two runs to put the Trojans behind the eight-ball going into the bottom of the inning. Reicks singled and Luke Anderson advanced him to second, and with a Waukon error and pair of walks, Reicks scored to tie the game.
