Trojans get another softball sweep

Lead Summary

Again, the pressure was on for the Turkey Valley softball team.
In game one of a doubleheader at Central Elkader Wednesday, they went from being down by four runs after five innings to a 7-5 lead after six, then added a run in the top of the seventh inning. They just needed three more outs for their third win of the season, which would surpass all of the wins the team had the previous year.
But when Elkader’s final bat came, the bottom half of the order loaded the bases with a walk and two singles. An out to first drove in a run and when pitcher Josie Weber issued the second walk of the inning, it loaded the bases again, with the No. 3 and the clean-up batter to bat. But Weber struck them both out and the TV girls won 8-6.
“This was a hard fought victory for us,” coach Junior Hackman said. “We showed a lot of character coming back from a 5 to 1 deficit after five innings to get the win.”
