Turkey Valley golfers finally get to play a round

Like all spring coaches, John Reicks has had to be creative when it comes to spring practices. After all, it’s not like he can take his tractor and clear off the course at Jackson Heights. He might try it, if he could. Thursday’s meet against Clayton Ridge and Waukon — held at Guttenberg — was the first time his team had been on a course this season.“Outside of an hour on the practice green at Jackson after I squeegeed the snow off!”The coach continued, “I was happy with our season debut. With our limited outdoor practice time, we used the meet as an extension of that and I saw some positive things out on the course.”Both the boys and girls trailed the three-team field, but the Trojans’ Simon Schmitt was among the top performers as the boys turned in a 270, to a 190 for Waukon and 220 for Clayton Ridge.
