TV coach pleased with his team’s first outings

Turkey Valley's golfers got the season underway like most area teams — with little time spent on an actual course.  The girls dropped a handful of strokes from their opening meet at West Central Thursday to their second meet the next night against Starmont, but the boys cut 44 shots from meet No. 1 to meet No. 2.    There were no wins for either team, however the boys tied West Central the first night.  "The kids played well for only the third time on a course this spring," coach John Reicks said of the opener, in which both Turkey Valley and the Blue Devils finished with a 250 on the boys side and West Central took the girls meet 239-282.  "Overall, I was pleased with how we played, especially the newcomers. There is a steep learning curve from practice to an actual meet, and all the kids handled it well."  The coach thought extremely slow greens caused a few problems early, but Nathan Mueterthies carded a 52 for the meet runner-up score.  For more on the Turkey Valley results, please see the April 11 Tribune.
