Undermanned Trojan boys just miss advancing

Lead Summary

It was a sectional field Turkey Valley coach John Reicks thought his team could have qualified in, had they been able to play with their top two golfers.
But when Simon Schmitt’s old basketball knee injury caused him to fail a physical therapy strength test, the top Trojan golfer was out. Then when the state qualifying track meet was moved from Thursday to Friday, the TV golfer with the second-best average on the season — dual athlete Kalvin Langreck — went with his other sport.
Turkey Valley still nearly made it. The Trojans tied for third place with Postville — three teams advance when one of the teams is the sectional host — but the Pirates’ No. 5 golfer had the better score, thus winning the tiebreaker.
